Wellness through movement

Following a diagnosis of cancer there is a lot of information to take in.
Alongside the many emotions you may feel, this can be very overwhelming.

Physiotherapy for people before, during and after cancer treatment can help to maintain and improve activity levels in order to help manage treatment side effects, potentially reduce the risk of recurrence, and to reduce the risk of other health complications.

The health benefits can begin immediately and therefore people would benefit from this information at the time of their diagnosis, but the ability to take this information on board in a helpful way will vary from person to person. The possible benefits from this are so vast however that the earlier the information is given, the better.

Specialist oncology physiotherapy can also help at this time if there are any specific treatments you have had, such as surgery and radiation therapy which can leave scarring and restrict range of movement or function.
When you feel ready to learn more about the multitude of benefits that you can get from physiotherapy and leading a more active life, especially following a cancer diagnosis, then please get in contact and we can help to guide you through this.

Jacqui Thorogood | JMTPhysiotherapy

About Jacqui

Jacqui qualified with a Bsc (Hons) in Physiotherapy in 2007 from the University of Hertfordshire, and went on to work in the NHS for three years. One of her roles was as a senior musculoskeletal physiotherapist in Burns and Plastics at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, where her interest in scar management began. As part of this role she also treated patients following breast surgery and became aware of the lack of services offered to these patients, many of whom struggle with restricted shoulder movement and pain.
